Surgical treatments for peripheral arterial disease include bypass surgeries and open removal of arterial plaque called “endarterectomy”. The patient is placed under anesthesia and these procedures are done in the operating room. This type of treatment usually requires a stay in the hospital of at least 1-2 days.
