Minimally invasive treatment of carotid disease includes placement of a stent through a small puncture site in the femoral artery. Through the puncture site a stent is placed over a wire across the blockage in the carotid artery. This procedure is typically reserved for individuals considered too high risk for conventional carotid surgery.
